Location: Chicago, MI

Time of Year: October

Distance options: Full Marathon (26.2 miles)

Year(s) completed: 2004 (full marathon)

I ran Chicago for my first marathon in 2004 and it was a lot of fun, despite the struggles of a first marathon.  The course is really fun (going through all the different ‘burbs of the city), great crowd support the whole way, and just a really amazing atmosphere.  It’s a world-class event and they do it right.  I highly recommend this race, especially for a first marathon.

The biggest downside is that because there are so many participants, the streets are jam-packed.  So if you’re looking to race for a specific time,  or just don’t want to weave through a sea of people for the first 8 miles, then be sure to get in the appropriate pace corral.
