The La Sportiva J16GR Peak T-shirt is a very light and comfortable tech shirt. However, it’s main selling point, the odor-resistant “Polygiene” treatment, definitely seems to fall short. It’s advertised as supposedly making the shirt anti-odor, allowing for more uses and fewer washes, thus saving water. This is a great theory, but it just doesn’t seem to work.
Upon first use, everything seemed great. A pretty standard tech shirt, but as I said, it’s got a great, light feel to it. This was just a short 3-mile run, nothing too sweaty. Upon second use I could already tell it was smelly, perhaps more odor than a non-Polygiene-treated tech shirt. A fellow running partner confirmed that they too could smell me.
I tried again, washing it then doing the same and had the same result. It is almost more of a chemical smell than a dirty/sweaty smell.
All in all, it’s an expensive tech shirt that although quite comfortable, I can’t seem to get any more uses out of it between washes than any other tech shirt.
