These Smartwool Outdoor Light Mini socks are a thinner yet padded wool sock. I haven’t actually ran in any wool socks in the summer before until recently, because I always thought they would be too hot, but these weren’t really any warmer than other socks.

They were pretty comfortable–As I’ve said repeatedly, I’m always more of a “no-see-’em” length kind of sock, so I felt the ankles a little restricting, but not too bad. I have only ran on roads (both paved and gravel) and sidewalks so far, but I can see the desire for a little more ankle covering on trails. In addition, although fairly thin, there’s a little more padding in the heal and toe, with a little arch-squeeze support.  Wicked well and kept my feet happy for an easy 18-miler.

I would probably use these more for longer and/or trail runs–slightly too much sock for short and quicker runs.

$17 for a pair of socks seems a little high. I do recognize Smartwool’s quality, so if these hold up for awhile (aka durability), I may consider additional star-power 😉

Made of 69% wool, 29% nylon, and 2% elastic.

  1. I really love these socks. Although they are great outdoor running socks, especially for colder conditions, I’ve actually been using them for kicking around the house on these colder days lately. I know it’s a waste of a quality Smartwool product, but they are super comfy and nice just around the house too!
