This Streamlight Trident Headlamp was a gift for xmas, and as I wasn’t overly impressed with my current headlamp (it did the trick, but who couldn’t use another?) I have started running with a local group for the last 7 months ago and our Monday meet-time is 7pm, which is definitely dark during these winter months, so I’ve had a lot more use for one of these while running lately. This one has proved to be really great.

It has three main beams: one LED, all three LEDs, and then the incandescent (traditional) center bulb. While the single center LED setting seems good enough for what I need it for: seeing the ground in front of me and making myself visible to others. However, the three is a solid beam.

It weight in at 4.6 oz, including the three AAA batteries it uses. It may look a little bulky, but it’s quite comfortable.

Other features I like are that it ratchets to whatever angle you prefer to point it at (ie, down in front of you to straight out) and the strap that goes over the center of your head to make sure it doesn’t droop down while a-running. It also claims to be water resistant, which will be good in snow or rain. The button is also easy to use, even with winter gloves or mittens on, to switch between modes.

I have ran about 4 times/20ish miles on it so far with the original batteries and I shall report later.

Overall this is a solid headlamp and has been great for running.
