This dietary supplement isn’t exactly running or athletic-related, but it is a part of overall health and thus affects my athletic health and performance at the end of the day. In short, I’ve always had trouble eating various things and/or not digesting food well, often being left feeling bloated or otherwise uneasy after meals for years and years. I’ve tried many products such as lactase, aloe vera pills, Beano, gas-X, and many others. It was suggested I try this broad-spectrum digestive aid to see if it would help and I believe it really has. See below for exactly “what’s in it”, but in short each packet contains seven capsules that include a dairy digestive aid, a pre-biotic (which I had never heard of), a probiotic, and other digestive aids.

After a few weeks of using this with my biggest meal of the day (usually dinner) I do believe it is helping. I think I feel less bloated, gassy, and otherwise distressed after eating and seem to worry much less about having to deal with these feelings after meals. I will continue to use it and check back later with more info on my progress.

Overall the capsules don’t really have any flavor, are a bit pricey ($35 for 15 packets aka ~15 days worth, but you can save a little money if you start a subscriptions, which I have not done yet), but seem to work so I will continue to use for now.

Info from Onnit:

WHAT’S IN THE TOTAL GUT HEALTH PACK?

DigesTech

A full spectrum enzyme supplement that can help you digest fats, lactose, carbs, protein and fiber.

Betaine HCL

Betaine hydrochloride (HCl) helps restore your stomach’s normal acid level and break down food to allow you to assimilate nutrients.

Saccharomyces Boulardii

A non-pathogenic, non-colonizing probiotic yeast that survives stomach acid, it helps support your immune system by promoting the production of secretory Immunoglobulin-A.

5 Strains of Probiotics

If you’re taking probiotics, you want to make sure they survive all the way to your small intestine. Your stomach does a great job of killing most everything that comes through. That’s why we’ve selected 5 of the most important naturally acid-resistant strains: L. acidophilus DDS-1, L. plantarum, L. rhamnosus, B. infantis, and B. lactis. Regularly incorporating probiotics is an active step towards improving the absorptive capacity of the gut. However the benefits of probiotics appear to extend beyond absorption and have been studied to support immunity and even help optimize mood.
