The Asics 1160 mens running shoe is my go-to trainer and has been for over 10 years. (The Asics 1100 series used to be the 1000 series.. 1030, 1040, 1090, etc, but is now up to 1170 in model). Overall it’s a pretty basic shoe: Neutral with decent cushioning. I like it because it’s super versatile.
It’s good for my long runs anywhere–from the paved sidewalks around town, to gravel dirt roads, and it’s still my choice for long, mildly-rough trail runs as well (I have even opted to use this as a low-profile trail hiker as opposed to a bulky hiking boot on milder trails). I generally put 400-450 miles on mine before my legs start feeling a little beat up and I switch to a new pair.
I love that my feet are so happy with the 1100-series that I can put a new pair on straight out of the box and put in a 15+ miler and come out blister-free.
Although I have been with the Asics 1100-series for quite some time, I’m currently on my 3rd pair of 1160’s with one more in the closet for when they’re needed.
