The Newton Boco AT “Neutral All-Terrain Trainer” is an all-round awesome shoe! It’s pretty light for a trainer (9.6 oz) and is very comfortable and breathable. Design-wise I like that the upper seems to be made of a thicker, breathable nylon. Also, the toe-bumper seems like a cool idea for rocks, roots, etc. It has the signature Newton “lugs” on the midfoot, but they aren’t thick at all and I didn’t really notice them.
I’ve taken these for a ride in all sorts of terrain already: light snow, bumpy grass, dirt/gravel, single track dirt–the shoes feel great in all of them. Even through some light mud and sloppy semi-flooded grass my feet stayed dry, so the “water repellent coating” must at least help a bit. They’re even felt good on the little I’ve had to take them on pavement and asphalt (road crossings, transitional areas, etc).
The only condition that I haven’t tested them out in yet is a race and/or speed workout scenario, in which I will report back as soon as I get the chance!
Overall I really like this shoe and it has quickly become one of my favorite off-road models.
