The Stassburg Sock (also just referred to as “The Sock”)is an achilles and lower calf rehabilitation device. The way it works is that it holds the foot in a flexed position which stretches the calf and achilles. When the muscle is stretched, it has increased bloodflow and thus can heal quicker.

PROs: This device seems to work. When I have suffered from occasional achilles tendonitis, I wear this around the house and to bed for as long as possible and it really seems to make my achilles feel better sooner. It’s all cloth and elastic so it’s easily hand washable and has held up over several years of occasional use.

CONs: After awhile, it gets unconfortable. Because of it’s design, it flexes the foot by a band that pulls the toe area toward just under the knee area. After a couple or few hours (especially while trying to sleep in it), my toes get kind of irritated from being pulled up and I have to take off the sock for the remainder of the night.

The sock may also seem slightly expensive, but I think compared to other devices (foot splits, etc), it’s probably worth the money in the long run, especially since it can be reused.
