The Nathan LightSpur is an awesome safety item! It basically clamps right on to the back of your shoe and either stays on always or you can have it flash. It comes in both red and green (I have the red right now), which both seem highly visible in darker conditions.

It stays on well–I’ve even tried to slam my foot in various (uncomfortable, not recommended) ways to try and shake it off..no luck. It has little teeth on the inside of the sides that help bite into the shoe very well. I even wore it in a few inches of icy snow and it stayed on and seemed to be waterproof.

Best of all (aside from feeling a little more visible/safer, of course), was that I didn’t notice it on me/it didn’t seem to hinder my running/stride at all.

Admittedly, I’ve been bad about keeping myself visible in darker conditions in the past, and this item will definitely help me with that going forward!

  1. I like this product a lot. I was pretty bad in the past at being super visible, but when I started running with my dog I was always worried about her being visible. So I decided it was probably important for me to be visible as well. I wear this on every dark run, and I also wear the LightBender arm light with it much of the time. This fits onto any size shoe around the heel. It has little plastic grippers on the inside that help it stay put on the shoe. I was worried about these ruining the outside of my fancy Newtons, but they actually don’t seem to cause any wear on the outer heel of the shoe. It is very bright and you only need one to put on either shoe. I normally but it on my right, but I don’t really know why. It also has a solid or blinking setting. And it is very light weight, so you don’t even know you have it on your shoe. I find the price reasonable, and I feel way safer now when I go out for runs.

  2. This has held up well for us. I haven’t used it a TON of times, but still haven’t had to replace the battery (if I even can myself, I’m not sure?), but also very importantly, it stays attached super well, and much better than other similar products that I’ve tried lately.
